What is the THC Open Registry?
A – The THC Open Registry is an expansion on the Open Hip/Eye/Heart
Registry which has been administered by the NSDTR Club of Canada for more
than 20 years.
What is the difference between the
THC Open Registry and the NSDTRC’s Open Hip/Eye/Heart Registry?
A – The THC Open Registry represents a shift in focus to whole litter
information and an expansion of the kinds of health information collected.
Breeders can provide the THC with buyer information and the THC will send
information packages on THC registration to those new owners. Whole litter
information is the key that will provide a more accurate picture of the
health of the worldwide Toller population and which will help breeders
to make breeding decisions that benefit all Toller owners.
When will the THC Open Registry
begin?
A – Yet to be determined.
At that time, the information currently held in the NSDTRC’s Open Hip/Eye/Heart
Registry will be rolled into the new database. Watch for updates on this
process.
Why an “Open” Registry?
A – It’s imperative that all health and genetic information be available
to all Toller breeders so that they can make informed breeding decisions
in an effort to reduce genetic disease in the breed.
What information will be collected
by the THC for the Open Registry?
A – All health and genetic information (clearances, veterinary reports,
etc) affecting an individual or individuals in the breed.
How will collection be done?
A – Forms will be available from the THC. Original forms (requiring
signatures) as well as supporting documentation must be sent to the THC.
Who can participate?
A – Any Toller owner can participate in the ongoing data collection.
Can I include Tollers that are deceased?
A – Absolutely, in fact it is encouraged that you do so. This information
is important so that a full history of the breed is known.
My Toller is healthy – why should
I participate?
A – It’s essential that we collect information on all individuals so
that the whole story is known.
My Toller won’t be bred – why should
I participate?
A – Whole family information is important when making breeding decisions.
Knowing the health status of siblings, half siblings, aunts/uncles, etc.
is important, regardless of whether or not they were in the breeding pool.
How can I register my Toller with
the THC?
A – It’s as simple as mailing in the information. If you’ve already
submitted your dog’s information to the NSDTRC’s Hip/Eye/Heart Registry,
that information will be rolled into the new THC Open Registry. If your
dog is not in that Registry or if you want to add new information you will
be able to obtain forms and instructions by contacting the THC (www.tollerhealth.com).
How do I update my Toller’s information
in the THC
A – Once the THC Registry is up and running,
updated information can be submitted using forms that will be available
from the THC. To update your dog’s information with any condition or disease,
simply fill out a THC registration form and attach the required documentation.
Do I send health certificates and
veterinary reports in with my THC registration forms?
A – Yes, copies of health certificates and veterinary reports will
be required and will be kept on the individual dogs file with the THC.
Can I include information on Tollers
that I don’t own or didn’t breed?
A – No, all information must come from the owner or breeder.
Is the data in the Registry going
to be verifiable with hard copy proof?
A – Yes, all information received by the THC will be kept on file in
a central location. Each individual dog will have his/her own file
and updates will be added as they are received. All information entered
into the THC database must be backed up with health certificates and lab
or veterinary reports, and must be sent with a registration form
signed by the owner or breeder.
How will the information be reported
to the Toller community?
A – A Toller Health Browser will be established on the internet. Printed
reports will also be available.
